March 13, 2018 - For the second season in a row, the Mouser-sponsored No. 18 car has taken the checkered flag at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the season-opening race of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series. Driver Sebastien Bourdais navigated numerous wrecks and spun-out competitors — plus his own cut tire in the first lap — to win the Florida race in his adopted hometown. With this 37th career IndyCar victory, Bourdais maintains his sixth place position on the all-time open wheel win list, with just two more wins to tie fifth-place with racing legend Al Unser, Sr.
"It's been an extraordinary year for Bourdais — winning at St. Pete in 2017, sidelined after a horrific crash during qualifications at Indianapolis and then returning with another victory at St. Petersburg. He is amazing," said Todd McAtee, Mouser Electronics' Vice President, Americas Business Development. "It looks very much like we have another astonishing season ahead."
Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, is proud to team up with valued supplier Molex, LLC to sponsor the Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan team for the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series. The 2018 season marks the 23rd season of the IndyCar Series and includes the 102nd running of the famed Indianapolis 500, set for May 27. Mouser first sponsored IndyCar racing in 2011 as an inventive way to communicate its performance-driven business model and promote the newest technologies and how they affect the high-tech world of IndyCar racing.
Bourdais scored a podium finish last year at Long Beach, and hopes are high for another win when the team returns to California on April 15.
"We congratulate Bourdais and the Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan team on this exciting and hard-fought victory," said Fred Bell, Vice President of Global Distribution for Molex. "Molex is proud to team up with Mouser to sponsor the No. 18 car. Our sponsorship gives us the opportunity to further demonstrate our commitment to developing innovative products that help advance the automotive industry."
Next stop for the No. 18 car is the Phoenix Grand Prix on April 7, followed by the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 15. From there, the 2018 Championship includes 13 more events, featuring the Indianapolis 500 and the season finale at Sonoma, California.
