Package size varies from 0402 to 3425, while the current hold ranges from 50mA to 7.0A. As a result, these PTCs are suitable for protecting Electronic Control Units (ECUs) against damage from faults that would otherwise require costly, complete module replacement.

0805L Series Surface-Mount PTC Fuses

Littelfuse 0805L Series Surface-Mount PTC Fuses offer a 6V_DC to 63V_DC voltage range, 8A maximum time to trip current, and 16mΩ to 70Ω resistance range. These fuses feature a fast response to fault currents, low resistance, and a compact design to save board space. The series is compatible with high-temperature solders. Littelfuse 0805L Series PTC Fuses provide surface-mount overcurrent protection for applications where space is at a premium and resettable protection is desired, such as disk drives, mobile phones, and USB peripherals.

PolySwitch Resettable Devices

Littelfuse PolySwitch and POLY-FUSE Devices are Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) devices that offer a resettable overcurrent protection alternative, reducing warranty, service, and repair costs. PTCs increase resistance as temperature increases due to increased flow. The components are designed to limit unsafe currents while allowing constant safe current levels, resistance will "reset" automatically when the fault is removed, and temperature returns to safe levels. The ability of the PTCs to reset themselves after exposure to a fault current makes them ideal within circuits that are not easily accessible. PTCs are typically used as circuit protection in applications where sensitive components are at constant risk of damage from overcurrent conditions. The components are also ideal for situations where frequent overcurrent conditions occur or constant uptime is required.
