Electrical Vehicle AC Chargers

Littelfuse provides a wide range of products that are suitable for Electric Vehicle AC Chargers. Although simpler in nature compared to DC chargers, AC charging stations safely deliver AC power from the electrical grid into the vehicle. Due to space and weight constraints in the vehicle, on-board chargers and AC charging stations are typically limited to lower amounts of power (22kW or less), which means charging time is slow – taking several hours. These systems also rely on a vehicle’s on-board charger to enable the conversion of AC power from the grid into DC power to charge the vehicle’s battery. It’s critical that proper measures are taken to safeguard both the charger and vehicle.

Off-Board Charger Sub-Unit Power Converters

Littelfuse Off-Board Charger Sub-Unit Power Converters are required for DC charging stations capable of charging to 80% SOC in under 30 minutes. These fast-charging applications require modular power converters, which can be paralleled to cater to different power levels, thereby enabling fast charging. The most critical parameters are energy density and system efficiency. A sub-unit power converter in a DC charging station consists of an AC/DC power stage and DC/DC power stage integrated into the charging station.

CG2 Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs)

Littelfuse CG2 Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) provide a high degree of surge protection in a small size, making them ideal for board-level circuit protection. These GDTs function as switches to dissipate a minimum amount of energy and handle currents that surpass other types of transient voltage protection. The CG2 series features a 145V to 1000V DC sparkover range, which is ideal for protecting equipment with higher voltage limits and holdover voltages. The gas-filled, rugged ceramic metal construction is highly reliable and well-suited for adverse environments. Littelfuse CG2 GDTs are available in various forms, including surface mount, core, straight, and shaped leads. Applications include data lines, power supplies, communication lines and equipment, medical electronics, and instrumentation circuits.

On-Board Battery Charger Solutions

Littelfuse On-Board Battery Charger Solutions address the electrical challenges that come with charging an electric vehicle's ability to charge its battery from a power outlet. Overcurrents, overvoltages, ESD, and input rectifier switching can impact this recharging ability, and Littelfuse delivers a spectrum of fusts, varistors, thyristors to address these threats.

xEV Power Train Solutions

Littelfuse offers a wide portfolio of xEV Power Train Solutions that are suitable for automotive environments. This portfolio includes fuses, TVS diodes, diode arrays, gate drivers, high-voltage fuses, and thermal protectors. These products from Littelfuse are designed to be used in various EV sectors, such as battery management systems, traction motor inverters, onboard chargers, and the battery distribution unit.

Automotive Application Solutions

Littelfuse Automotive Solutions contain a portfolio of AEC-Q101 and AEC-Q200 qualified TVS diodes, diode arrays, varistors, multilayer varistors, and POLY-FUSE® PTCs. Each new generation of vehicles has an increased number of electronics that control everything from the radio to fuel injection. Littelfuse provides circuit protection solutions for a range of difficult automotive applications.

Electrical Vehicle DC Fast Chargers

DC charging stations are designed to convert the electrical grid’s AC power into DC power that can then be fed directly into a vehicle’s battery system for fast charging – in 30 minutes or less. Because the conversion from AC to DC power is being done in the charging station, these units can provide higher levels of power (50kW to 350kW and beyond) to the vehicle compared to AC charging stations. Working with tens to hundreds of kilowatts of power, efficient conversion, reliability of the system, and user safety are critical.
