Surge Protection Devices

Bourns Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) protect sensitive equipment from damage caused by lightning and electrical transient surges. These protective devices integrate discrete circuit protection devices into an assembly or system that provides enhanced functionality and protection. Based on Bourns' expertise in discrete circuit protection, the SPD product line includes protective devices for AC systems, DC power systems, signal data line circuits, and coaxial networks/CATV. Bourns SPDs protect various electronic, electrical, data communication, and telecommunication equipment.

AC Surge Protective Devices

Bourns AC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) provide AC protection for front-end installations, main switchboards, and sensitive installations without LPS (lightning rods). The product line now includes the model 1250 Series General Duty AC SPDs with a maximum discharge current rating of 50kA (8/2μs) and the model 1210 Series Heavy Duty AC SPDs with a maximum discharge current rating of 100kA (8/20μs). These DIN Rail mountable AC surge protective devices are designed to be installed close to sensitive equipment downstream from the main circuit breaker. Bourns AC Surge Protective Devices comply with standards UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 616343-1.

Circuit Protection Devices

Bourns manufactures and supplies a wide range of circuit protection technologies, including fuses, PTC thermistors, varistors, GDTs, resettable thermal cut-offs, surge protection devices, hybrid protectors, discrete semiconductor solutions, and more. Reliable surge protection is a critical design consideration to help ensure operational reliability of consumer electronics, industrial/communication equipment, automotive, battery charging, energy storage infrastructure, and renewable energy harvesting ecosystems.

1210 Heavy Duty AC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs)

Bourns 1210 Heavy Duty AC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) are designed to protect high-risk electrical service entrances and branch panels. These devices are single-pole modules that can be configured for differential and common mode protection in single and three-phase applications up to 600V. The 1210 SPDs feature a multi-pole uni-block design, visual fault indicator, remote signaling capability, and 100kA maximum discharge current rating. These devices are IP20-rated and RoHS-compliant. The 1210 SPDs are to be installed in the main switchboard, at the front end of the installation, close to sensitive terminals, or in installations without lightning rods. These devices are used in electrical service entrance and branch panels.
